On Tuesday, July 24, Tom Smith will do sacrifice something that he spent two years creating his hair.
Tom is the very loving person ,and he has decided to chop off 18 inches of his long locks and donate the precious strands to Human hair wigs for Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides custom-made hair replacements specifically designed for children in need.
This is the chef's second donation to the cause, setting his grand total at 2.5 feet. "I choose Wigs for Kids because they give the wigs to the kids free of charge. Some foundations don't," says Tom, who's driven to donate out of compassion. "Kids going through something very traumatic should not have to face ridicule, too." Each wig uses approximately 150,000 strands of hair, so donations from people like Hinojosa are greatly appreciated.
And he's encouraging you to do the same. Donors who join Chef Tom at Galleria Hair Design on Tuesday will receive a $50 gift certificate to his restaurant.
If you're not quite ready to commit to a pixie cut or a military look just yet, you can still take part. Per Diem will be donate 25 percent of its sales to human hair wigs for kids between 5 and 10 p.m. on Tuesday, so bring your wallet, your thirst, and your appetite, and enjoy newly shorn Chef Hinojosa's Italian-inspired local cuisine while helping kids in need. Hinojosa is hoping for "an amazing turnout" for the event he set up entirely on his own. "I'm happy to be in a position to not only donate my hair, but my talents, too," he says.
